Mark Twain - Posted for Alphabet Thursday M- Mark

It is with sadness that I write this,

so many emotions and, disbelief the main one

How can people justify editing classic literary works?

Where does this begin and end?

What group thinks this is OK to do?

This is not a poem, but a stand against this blasphemy.

Who will be next?  Yours?

  1. I agree with you wholeheartedly, Wysteria. It makes my blood boil that they would have the audacity to alter historical works of fiction.

    Ridiculous.

  2. I am so upset by this. I can't even put my thoughts on paper. Where can this lead to? Anything good?

Thanks for stopping by... I hope the millions who disagree with this will be heard

  3. Interesting M post... I've heard about the publishing of his autobiography 100 years after his death, but not anything about his works being edited... What an odd thing to do that would be!

  4. Hi Francisca,

Yes, they are suppose to publish some of his works but there is also the editing of his works. You can find some info here...

  6. OMG! I heard this yesterday and was soooo pissed! Just who do these people think they are?? They need to face reality, but there is no chance that that will happen. It is just disgusting!!

  8. Thanks for the link, Wysteria... This revision, I agree with you entirely, is a gross distortion of reality and truth and will teach children that revisionism is okay. Why not use the book to DISCUSS the issue of racism and the development of social enlightenment? Twain is one of your country's most brilliant historical figures, and this is a slap in his face. But then again, considering your mainstream media, of which Fox News is a shining example, TRUTH is not very popular in the USA these days.

  9. I'm afraid I haven't heard this news here in the Uk but any editing of an author's work is incomprehensible. why on earth would you want to do that? It's like updating Shakespeare...just not the same is it?
Thanks for bringing this to my attention

  13. I love this commentary on such a surreal decision.

Remake it as a Hallmark movie with script changes...certainly...but leave the original manuscript and intent alone.

Your words perfectly expressed this outrage.

Thank you for sharing this post with us on Alphabe-Thursday.

    A+ for you...

F- for the subject of the post...

  14. It is absolute madness to go back and edit history in accordance with current thought.
